A Modern Mobile Flood Protection System – An Innovative Tool for Disaster Prevention
A state-of-the-art mobile flood protection system has been developed to provide a quick and effective solution for safeguarding areas at risk of flooding and waterlogging. This project was created by Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów S.A. in collaboration with the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute. The system is manufactured using steel profiles produced at Huta Łabędy, a company within the Węglokoks Capital Group.
The system consists of vertical posts and horizontal barrier beams, which can be assembled quickly in the event of a flood threat. Its key advantages include ease of installation, durability, and adaptability to local hydrological conditions. This modern alternative to traditional flood defense methods, such as sandbags and temporary barriers, provides a more efficient and reliable approach to flood protection.
The system has been designed to protect urban areas and critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and public buildings that may be vulnerable to flooding. Furthermore, its construction integrates with other retention solutions, enabling a comprehensive flood defense strategy.
New Challenges for Infrastructure and Safety
Changing climate conditions and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, such as intense rainfall, pose growing challenges. The flood that struck Central Europe, including Poland, in the autumn of 2024, was one of the most severe in recent years. The southern regions of Poland were particularly affected, experiencing exceptionally high rainfall, which led to widespread destruction and significant threats to cities.
In response to these challenges, the mobile flood protection system serves as a modern tool that enables rapid deployment in emergency situations, significantly reducing the risk of damage caused by sudden weather phenomena.
