Huta Łabędy
Huta Łabędy S.A. belongs to the oldest Silesian steelworks. Its beginnings go back to 1848, when erection of a plant called then "Hermina Steelworks" started. The main assortment of this plant were products rolled in five small rolling mills provided with charging material from about twenty puddling furnaces. The first departments of the Steelworks, reconstructed after the second world war, started their operation in 1948. In the recent decades the Steelworks has been modernized many times.
At present Huta Łabędy S.A. has a Rolling Mill Department as well as a Yoke and Clamp Department.
The Rolling Mill consists of two production departments:
- the shape section mill (D650), which is used mainly for rolling of profiles type V, J, KS/KO as well as channels and double-tee sections
- the bending department producing arches for mining supports, branches of dog headings type Łabędy and offering bending of profiles in arch form.
At present a modern series of types of supports of V-profiles is produced, which has been developed at the Central Mining Institute in Katowice in cooperation with the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy in Gliwice. Supports of KS/KO-profiles are also produced.
The Yoke and Clamp Department produces two-yoke clamps of SD type, bow clamps, friction props SV and other mining accessories.
